Running Accomplishments:

Marathon PR - 3:05 (3:06 at Boston)

Completed a dozen marathons and a handful of 50 mile ultras.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Consistent aerobic and strength training.

Christie Clinic Half Marathon 4/27/24

Long-Term Running Goals:

Sub 1:35 in half marathon.  Then might consider taking a shot at full marathon again.

Personal:

I started more dedicated running and racing in my thirties.  Eventually I developed symptomatic bradycardia and SVT which required a cardiac pacemaker implant and a cardiac cath ablation.  It has taken a long time to get back to running consistently again.  Counting my blessings and trying to remain more balanced with fitness.

AM: Jumped on the treadmill and worked up to an easy paced run incorporating several 4-6% grade hills during last half.

PM: Ran a standard mostly flat out and back during the lunch hour.  Sunny with temps in the 20s.  After last week's "speedwork" my body dished out indications that it's not ready for hard intervals (sluggish legs the whole week, tendon aches, trouble climbing stairs, etc.).  Therefore, I'm changing plans and going the endurance route with some pickups or pace runs if it feels right.  I'll revisit hard intervals later or might give them a try every 2 weeks.

Nice workouts. Regarding the hard intervals. You could still try doing them once a week keeping the same amount of intensity but cut the number of miles for the workout.

Just my thoughts. It's hard to know what works when you feel your body isn't ready.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice Kory. I'm just playing it safe because my schedule is really busy and I'm having a hard time getting the necessary amount of sleep with the kids being sick a lot this winter. My job has been stressful and time consuming as well. Considering all that, I'm feeling that dedicated "speedwork" will lead to injury, which would be a real killer for Boston. I'm going to keep things simple and enjoy mostly easy running. Probably freshen the legs up for only 4 weeks or so. We'll see how things feel. Take care.

I hear you about work. I've had a difficult time this year training because of work. But I also decided to cut back this year because of a bad addictive behavior that running races started to give me. I started putting running before anything else. But work this year has made it difficult to train as well.

If you feel speedwork would cause injury then I would just implement doing hill repeats every other week till Boston.

Sounds smart. Better safe than sorry.
