Short-Term Running Goals:

Base building to reach full potential and maybe run a race in the fall.

Long-Term Running Goals:

God willing, work on a top three place in age group and become a strong master's competitor.

Personal:

Married for 15 yrs and have three children.  I picked up running about 5 years ago after years of weight/power lifting.  I now weigh 60 lbs less than I did back in my deadlifting days.  I did not have a formal running background (played baseball and basketball).  Running has changed my life for the better in so many ways.  Thanks be to God!!

People can't understand why a man runs.  They don't see any sport in it.  Argue it lacks the sight and thrill of body contact.  Yet, the conflict is there, more raw and challenging than any man versus man competition.  For in running it is man against himself, the cruelest of opponents.  The other runners are not the real enemies.  His adversary lies within him, in his ability, with brain and heart to master himself and his emotions.

AM:  LP 18 mi with a couple TP miles mixed in (6:30 avg) to blow off stored energy and did 7 strides during last two miles (7:35 avg, 130 HR avg).  My butt was dragging the last three miles, but my heart rate remained very tame.  I only had water to drink before and during run.  Left calf was tight first two miles, but then no problem.  Temps in low 50s and foggy.

Great bit of running this week! Good job on this nice long run. Glad the calf relaxed.

This increased mileage is going to really show up as an improvement in your future races.

Thank you. I had to put in the long one early because I'm on daddy duty over the weekend. My wife calls it "bonding time". Have a great weekend!

Nice run! When's your next marathon?

From Robert on Sep 05, 2008 at 17:07:32

If all holds together then I might run a small marathon in Mason City, IA the last weekend in Oct. There's a 10 mile race here at the end of Sept. I'm thinking about as well. I plan to run Boston next year. That's about it. Except for Boston, kind of boring eh?
