Running Accomplishments:

Marathon PR - 3:05 (3:06 at Boston)

Completed a dozen marathons and a handful of 50 mile ultras.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Consistent aerobic and strength training.

Christie Clinic Half Marathon 4/27/24

Long-Term Running Goals:

Sub 1:35 in half marathon.  Then might consider taking a shot at full marathon again.

Personal:

I started more dedicated running and racing in my thirties.  Eventually I developed symptomatic bradycardia and SVT which required a cardiac pacemaker implant and a cardiac cath ablation.  It has taken a long time to get back to running consistently again.  Counting my blessings and trying to remain more balanced with fitness.

AM: Pouring rain outside so I ran on the treadmill and watched the 2002 TDF.  Just did an easy progression while varying the incline 0-2%.  So far my total mileage this year has surpassed total mileage for all of 2005 (the year I ran my first marathon).  1:24:00 10 mi - 8:24 avg

PM: Easy run over lunch hour.  Windy, but great temp around 60.  0:40:56 5 mi - 8:11 avg (hills)

AM: Raining again so I ran on the mill before heading to work.  Progression run for 7 mi then ran tempo 1.5 mi, easy 1 mi, tempo 0.5 mi, and easy 0.5 mi.  1:20:00 10 mi - 8:00 avg

PM: Ran in a wind tunnel with 30-40 mph winds outside.  Not very enjoyable.  0:46:00 5.5 mi - 8:21 avg

AM: Slow run with 3 x tempo pickups near the end + Light strength training. 0:51:20 6.0 mi - 8:33 avg

PM: Easy run around the lake.  Windy again, but I was in better spirits this time around and took it in stride.  I hope Boston isn't this windy or my PR is toast.  Added 5 x tempo fartleks near the end.  0:58:15 7.10 mi - 8:12 avg

Ran an out and back on a bike trail after work.  We're suppose to get rain and snow this weekend so I wanted to get the long run out of the way.  Started out the run with temps near 50 and hardly any wind, but it got cold quick as the sun set and the wind began blowing from the north.  Not much fun mentally on the way back, but my energy was very good and I ran a much faster back half (in a hurry to get somewhere warm).  2:52:00 21 mi - 8:11 avg

AM: I woke up at 4am and couldn't get back to sleep so I went for an easy 14 mi run. Mixed in about 5 x fast fartleks at the end. Feels like I could have gone on forever today, but I felt tired enough and it's good to leave something in the tank. Right?

PM: Ran 4 mi really slow on the t-mill with 3 x faster 400m pickups near the end.  I'm peaking or simply anxious because it feels like my body just wants to run constantly.  I haven't felt this way before any other race.  37:40 4 mi - 9:25 avg
